Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed Anthony Elanga is not quite ready to make a playing return from injury.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has always showed a willingness to put his trust in young players. You have to commend him for that.
One man who made a first-team breakthrough last season was Anthony Elanga. The Swede would’ve had his chance earlier but for injury, though he’d end the campaign with a goal on the final day against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After featuring heavily in our first two pre-season games, Elanga would mysteriously go off the radar. We’d later learn the teen was suffering from an injury once again.
However, he’s back out on the grass and doing his rehab, with Solskjaer confirming the United starlet is working hard to get fit – though he’s not quite ready to be involved against Southampton tomorrow.
“He’s not fully fit yet. He’s doing his rehab but he’s working hard on the grass,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com when asked about Elanga.
“At least he’s out from the gym and outside in the lovely Manchester weather! [laughs]”
I think Elanga has a really bright future at Old Trafford, with his versatility being the big reason as to why. The Swede has looked sharp whenever called upon, playing with a maturity beyond his years.
He looks like one of those players who is just too good to go out on loan. Elanga’s ready to make his mark now, though getting into the team on a regular basis may be a tough ask this season – particularly after Jadon Sancho’s arrival.
Solskjaer, as always, will take the cautious approach, particularly with young players. Elanga will be given every opportunity to get back up to speed in training, before probably playing an U23 game or two. Then, we may well see him involved in a first-team game in a few weeks.
Get well soon, Anthony!
