Edinson Cavani has suffered an injury, according to Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United kick off their 2021/22 Champions League campaign tonight, with more promise in Europe than I can remember for any point over the last decade.
Credit to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for that, as he’s built a squad more than capable of going toe-to-toe with any other side in Europe on any given day. Obviously, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane definitely help out in that regard.
Well, the 22-man squad for our game against Young Boys was confirmed last night and Edinson Cavani was missing. We already knew he was injured, though Solskjaer has given us a small update in that regard.
He’d confirmed that the United star suffers the injury during a behind-closed-doors friendly that was played – though Cavani is working hard to get back fit and he won’t be out for too long.
“He had a slight strain during the international week after the in-house game we played,” Solskjaer told ManUtd.com.
“He is hopefully back with us soon. He’s working hard to get back.”
Cavani’s start to the season has been heavily disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic already, and this latest injury blow delays his return even further.
El Matador was a key figure in 2020/21. His goals, work ethic and presence rubbed off on the rest of the squad. It’s very easy to forget he was our main striker at the end of the campaign and he’s definitely not lost his ability overnight.
Although Ronaldo is obviously now here, Cavani still has a role to play as football is now a squad game more than ever. Hopefully, the 34-year-old isn’t out for too long as we’re going to need him when the games start coming thick and fast.
Get well soon, Edi!
