Solskjaer says we’ll ‘know something next week’ on Lukaku’s future…

Manchester United are in the middle of their biggest transfer window in years. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tasked with overhauling a struggling squad, but these things take time.

Not only do United desperately need to sign players, but there are also guys who want to leave. Amongst those is Romelu Lukaku, with the 26-year-old not featuring in the Red Devils’ pre-season friendly against Perth Glory yesterday – further fuelling the transfer rumours…

After the game, Solskjaer spoke to the media and was asked about Lukaku’s future. He stated that there have been no ‘bids that we’re considering’ made, before suggesting that we’ll know something more ‘next week’ on his potential transfer away from United…

“Let’s see when the season starts. We have not had any bids that we are considering.” Solskjaer told reporters, including Sky Sports News.

The Baby Faced Assassin added: “you guys will know something next week”.

To me, this is interesting. Solskjaer isn’t telling us everything he knows at this stage, but I feel as though he’s hinting at a move away. Maybe United have set a deadline to Inter Milan, or maybe the Serie A side will have come up with the funds to afford Lukaku at that point. Who knows, but it does feel as if the striker could be on his way out (to me anyway).

I’m not sure what to make of Lukaku’s time at United. He’s scored 42 goals in 96 games which is a more than respectable record. However, the fans haven’t fully taken to the 26-year-old for whatever reason, while Marcus Rashford is seemingly Solskjaer’s preferred option so you can see why Lukaku would want to depart.

The good thing for United is that Lukaku is under contract and they don’t have to let him go on the cheap. I’d suspect that Solskjaer would be happy to keep him around if the right bid doesn’t come United’s way, but if the money is stumped up by Inter (or anyone else for that matter), then the Reds may well be in the market for a replacement for the Belgium international before too long.
