Solskjaer set for talks with 26-year-old, set to discuss future at club: report

Romelu Lukaku’s time at Manchester United can only be described as odd. When the Belgian forward is good, he’s brilliant. When he’s bad, well he’s, er, bad…

This season, Lukaku has scored some massively important goals. That night in Paris immediately springs to mind. Time-and-time again, though, there have been stretches where he genuinely looks like he’d struggle to hit a barn door with a banjo.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a decision to make – and remember Lukaku cost United upwards of £75million. When that sort of money is involved it can sometimes complicate the situation as the Red Devils won’t like to cash-in, thus admitting to their mistake.

It seems as though the Baby Faced Assassin is trying to see where Lukaku’s head is it, as according to the Evening Standard, the pair are set for talks next week to discuss the forward’s future.

United’s Norwegian manager wants to gauge Lukaku’s desire to remain at Old Trafford, although the manager is (rightly) concerned about the fact that his #9 hasn’t scored in his last eight games.

To add further fuel to the fire, the Evening Standard says that United could well be tempted to part with the ex-Everton man – but only if they can recoup the money they paid to sign Lukaku in 2017.

It’s a complex situation. I suspect that due to the fact that this squad needs serious work in other areas, Lukaku will stick around for at least another season. Quite frankly, Solskjaer has enough transfer problems to worry about and I think he’s more than willing to take a chance on Lukaku rather than having to replace yet another first-team member.
