After a month of negotiations with Juventus and Inter Milan, it seems as though the latter has won Romelu Lukaku’s signature.
For Manchester United, the timing of Milan’s latest bid couldn’t have been worse. The Red Devils will want to bring in someone to fill the void left by the Belgium, though they better act quickly.
According to James Robson in the Evening Standard, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘eager’ to sign a replacement, with the Baby Faced Assassin making it clear that he’s now one attacking player light.
Robson throws out two names as possible options. He states that a move for Mario Mandzukic could yet go ahead before today’s 5pm deadline, while United are ‘aware’ of Fernando Llorente’s availability. As the Basque-born 34-year-old is a free agent, the Reds could actually bring him in beyond the deadline.
One player who will not be moving to Old Trafford is Paulo Dybala. Although the forward has had a ‘change of heart’ and is now open to negotiations with United, the club have washed their hands of the Argentine due to his initial hesitation to make the switch to Manchester.
It’s tough. United don’t have much time left and it looks to me as though they’re trying to bring in a striker with experience rather than a stellar name.
Personally, I don’t think a deal will get done (for anyone) today, leaving an awful lot of pressure on young Mason Greenwood’s shoulders. Will he rise to it? Only time will tell.
