Manchester United Football Club are in the midst of transition. Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the signs have been hugely positive, though there is still much work ahead. We’re approaching a seriously important Man United January transfer window, in terms of both incoming and outgoings.
Anyway, right now it seems as though the Baby Faced Assassin is focused on both as the winter transfer season approaches. In a report from the Daily Telegraph, it is today being claimed that Solskjaer is expected to be ready to listen to January offers for three United first-team regulars; Nemanja Matic, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young.
Let’s start with the obvious Rojo transfer. Just a couple of days ago, we covered a story from the MEN in which it was claimed the Argentine had been granted time off ahead of a potential transfer. With a wealth of centre-half options, it does feel like the 29-year-old’s time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.
The other two I’m surprised about. With Scott McTominay being injured for the long-term, letting Matic go (without replacement) in the mid-season window could have disastrous effects on United’s race for a place in the top four. The knock-on that could have when it comes to attracting the best players to Manchester next summer cannot be understated.
As for Youngy, kicking him out in January would just be cruel to a great servant of this club. The former Aston Villa man has played such a pivotal role over the best part of a decade. He deserves to play out his contract and be let go in the summer as opposed to being chucked out of the back door.
Again, it all depends on whether the Reds can replace these guys in January which is a notoriously tricky time to buy. It’s not as if United are going to get massive transfer fees for these sort of players anyway, so if it comes to it, perhaps it’s worth keeping them around…
