Alex Telles will not be moving away from Manchester United this summer, according to a recent claim.
Last summer, Manchester United fans had thought the club finally solved their left-back problem with a move for FC Porto’s Alex Telles.
Indeed, that position is now in a far better place than it was last season – though not because of Telles, at least directly anyway…
Luke Shaw’s return-to-form has been nothing short of remarkable. The left-back has emerged as one of the best in the country, while no doubt being pushed by Telles has spurred our Englishman on.
For Telles, it has meant playing second-fiddle. After just seven Premier League appearances this season, many questions whether the Brazilian would still be here next term.
Well, according to Jonathan Shrager, the 28-year-old will not be leaving the club this summer despite that lack of game-time.
First and foremost, this is great news for United. Having Telles in the squad is a massive boost. Not only has it meant Shaw has had to take it up a notch to keep his place in the side, Telles is also someone who can come into the side and slot in seamlessly when required.
At just £12million, this was an absolute steal of a signing. For Telles, it’s now about continuing to work hard over the next twelve months and ensure he takes his opportunity when it comes his way.
With United looking likely to compete in the Champions League next term, why would Telles want to leave? This is the highest level he’s ever played at, so I’m not surprised to learn he’s wanting to compete for his place in the starting eleven rather than running away at the first sign of trouble.
