Brandon Williams could be playing his football elsewhere in the 2021/22 season.
Manchester United Football Club definitely improved last season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The proof is in the pudding, the Reds would reach a major final and finish second in the Premier League.
However, there’s still plenty of work ahead for the Baby Faced Assassin. Some signings have to be made and with that in mind, other players may be forced to leave either permanently or on loan.
Amongst those guys is Brandon Williams. The English left-back enjoyed a brilliant 2019/20 campaign, however, he’d take a backwards step last term; most notably due to the brilliant form of Luke Shaw coupled with the addition of Alex Telles.
Now, it looks as though the Harpurhey-born full-back could be playing his football elsewhere next term. According to the Daily Mail, Southampton are ‘confident’ of signing the 14-appearance United star on a short-term deal.
Apparently, talks are continuing between Southampton and United, over a loan deal that’d see Williams head to the South Coast club for the 2021/22 campaign.
Southampton actually wanted to take Williams on loan for the season just gone, though United were reluctant to let their academy graduate leave given his impeccable form the year prior. Now, Southampton are making another effort to sign Williams.
This move definitely makes sense. Southampton would lose Ryan Bertrand on a free transfer during the last window and those minutes will need replacing. If Williams does end up at Southampton, this represents a brilliant opportunity for the 20-year-old to start games week-in-week-out.
Hopefully, Williams can seal this move in the not too distant future and get his young career back on track.
