Spanish club make shock offer for Manchester United man with 12 months left on current deal: report

Manchester United have received a ‘shock’ offer from Athletic Bilbao, as they look to re-sign Ander Herrera.

That’s what Spanish media outlet El Correro say, translated by the Daily Express. The report adds that Bilbao are still waiting for United’s reply regarding the Basque-born midfielder.

Herrera has been at United since 2014, and the 28-year-old has just twelve months remaining on his current Old Trafford deal, meaning club’s are sensing blood, as if he doesn’t sign a new contract then the Red Devils could potentially lose him for nothing in one years time.

The fact that United didn’t outright reject the offer concerns me. It means that the club are potentially considering parting with Herrera, who proved his worth in emphatic fashion against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Don’t forget that just last year this lad won Manchester United’s Player of the Year award after a stunning campaign under Mourinho, but this season, his role has been massively reduced following Nemanja Matic’s arrival.

Personally, I’d be surprised if United let him go so easily. He should be given a new contract and this summer I fully expect that to happen. Although, a move back home must be rather tempting for the player…
