Spurs make contact with Jesse Lingard over potential move: report

Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a summer move for Man United winger, Jesse Lingard.

Manchester United Football Club have many unhappy players on the books at the moment. To me, it feels like the Old Trafford club need to trim the squad down and almost start again when it comes to rotational options.

Dean Henderson, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard all seem likely to leave the Theatre of Dreams in the not too distant future over a lack of playing time.

In regards to the latter, Football London have shared some new information. Apparently, contact with Lingard’s camp has been made by Tottenham Hotspur.

The United star, who has struggled for minutes this season, is being sounded out by the Reds’ Premier League rival over a summer move on a free transfer. It’s also stated that the North London club ‘could explore’ the possibility of a January deal, too.

Lingard, who will cost nothing in the summer, is incredibly versatile and he’d be a brilliant asset to any side in world football. It remains to be seen whether United would be willing to sell to a direct rival in the mid-season window.

After a brilliant loan spell at West Ham last season, Lingard has done everything he can to force his way into United’s plans on a regular basis. Sadly, for the Warrington-born-winger, he’s often been rooted to the bench. Even after a change in manager.

The writing looks to be on the wall. Lingard will probably walk away for nothing in five months’ time, with United only having themselves to blame after turning down numerous, decent offers from West Ham last summer.

At this stage in his career, Lingard strikes me as someone who just wants to play football. Who are we to stop him from doing that?

Should Man United be doing more to keep Jesse Lingard around? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
