Squad News: Man United name 23-man squad vs FC Barcelona

Tonight, Manchester will be filled with Catalonians as FC Barcelona come to town.

United will be hoping to get one over on their Spanish rivals, as they look to take a first-leg lead over to the Camp Nou.

Ahead of the game, the eagle-eyed Manchester Evening News reporters have been camped outside of the Lowry Hotel, trying to get a glimpse of the squad that will be utilised for the huge showdown at Old Trafford tonight.

They spotted a 23-man squad, with regulars like Marcus Rashford, David de Gea and Paul Pogba available to go. There is a couple of notable absentees, however. It doesn’t look as though Nemanja Matic has been passed fit to play, while Ander Herrera doesn’t make the squad.

In terms of replacements, young James Garner is included. He must be in dreamland, and although it’s unlikely he’ll see the field, the middle of the park is an area in which United are light on numbers right now.

Confirmed 23-man squad vs FC Barcelona (via the Manchester Evening News):

De Gea, Romero, Grant; Rojo, Dalot, Jones, Smalling, Young, Shaw, Lindelof; Pogba, Pereira, Fred, Mata, Garner, Lingard, McTominay; Lukaku, Martial, Rashford.

This is a good squad, particularly in an attacking capacity. We’ll cause Barcelona problems, particularly on the counter-attack, but you do have to worry about that defence. It’s just not good enough to keep Lionel Messi quiet for 90 minutes and we’re going to need to see a huge performance from both Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling.
