Squad News: Two vital Manchester United stars don’t travel as host of youngsters included

Manchester United’s penultimate game of the season takes place this evening, with Jose Mourinho taking his side to the South Coast to take on Claude Puel’s Southampton side. This is a game that the hosts will badly want to win, to go some way towards avenging their EFL Cup final loss at the hands of the Red Devils.

Ahead of what is a meaningless fixture for the visitors, the Manchester Evening News have released some early squad news. The most notable bits of news is that Paul Pogba misses out as he is still mourning the death of his father, as does David de Gea who hasn’t travelled with the squad.

That could present an opportunity for Sergio Romero to start, but both Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara are included in the squad so they’ll be patiently waiting for their chance. Mourinho has also included several other youngsters, with the likes of Axel Tuanzebe, Demetri Mitchell and Scott McTominay named amongst the rest of the first-team.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all travelled. They’ll all be looking to earn a start and trying to impress, in order to force their way into Jose Mourinho’s Europa League final team.
