After wanting to leave Manchester United all summer, its ironic that our best player by a country mile has been Wayne Rooney. At times the 28-year old from Croxteth has looked like the only one interested in fighting for the cause, and we’ve decided to have a look at where we’d be without his goals and assists this year.
In the summer there were only a handful of Reds who wanted Rooney to stay at Old Trafford, admittedly I was one of those that wanted him gone, but after some stunning performances this season many fans (myself included) have had a massive U-turn in their thoughts towards the England man.
Wayne Rooney has directly been involved with a staggering 59% of Manchester United’s goals so far this season, contributing an impressive eight goals and five assists. This works out at an assist or goal average of at least one contribution a game, every 85 minutes to be precise.
Without Rooney in our side, United would have only won three games so far this season, with the wins coming against Swansea, Crystal Palace and Sunderland, and we would’ve dropped eight points, drawing with Fulham, Arsenal and getting beaten by Cardiff and Spurs.
United would be in fifteen place without Rooney so far this season, and keeping hold of him is one thing David Moyes didn’t get enough credit for this summer. Now the Scottish boss just has to ensure that the United talisman signs a new deal sharpish!
