Axel Tuanzebe had an outstanding pre-season tour for Manchester United. It come on the back of an excellent loan spell at Aston Villa.
All the signs point to the centre-back being ready for regular first-team football at Old Trafford, though Stoke City seem to think otherwise.
The story comes from the Daily Mail, who state that Stoke have made a loan enquiry for the 21-year-old United man, though that approach is set to be in vain, as the player wants to fight for a first-team spot in the Red Devils’ defence.
Apparently, both Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have also made loan enquiries, too. I understand why the former would as he’s played there before and now they’re a Premier League side, but I just don’t see Tuanzebe dropping down a division again.
After the arrival of Harry Maguire, the Mail state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to let a defender leave with Marcos Rojo the one ‘most likely’ on his way out with a loan move for him in the offing.
For me, though, Tuanzebe should be third-choice centre-back at United. The youngster has shown he has the quality, technique and class to play for this club at the highest level. I’d much rather see minutes handed to him than Phil Jones or Chris Smalling, for instance…
