For Alexis Sanchez, Manchester United has been an absolute nightmare. The Chilean has struggled for any kind of consistency, while showing nothing close to his best over the last twelve months or so.
That has led to speculation amongst fans surrounding his long-term future. Now, according to Calciomercato, translated by the Daily Mirror, Juventus have identified Sanchez as a potential reinforcement.
However, the Italian media outlet is also claiming that Sanchez’s huge wages could be an issue. The attacker is United’s biggest earner, taking home €20million a year. The Serie A giants aren’t ready to match that offer – which is understandable.
To me, that means United have two options. Let him for an incredibly low transfer fee or subsidise his wages. I’m fairly certain they’ll be keen on doing neither and no doubt they’ll give Sanchez every opportunity to prove his worth before now and the season’s end.
Sometimes, certain situations just don’t work out. This looks to be one of those occasions and maybe United should just take the hit to get Sanchez off the books and build from there.
I know that’s not ideal, and nobody wants to admit they’re wrong, but in this case, it seems like the best possible option for all involved. At least if he goes to Juventus, Sanchez cannot hurt us domestically and the only way we’ll face him in a competitive game is in the Champions League…
