Manchester United’s January transfer window was extremely dull, with the highlight being a few deadline day loan deals for a couple of youngsters. However it could have been so different, as according to the Portuguese media outlet O’Jogo, United made a €40million offer for Renato Sanches.
Reports suggesting the young attacking midfielder was on his way to Old Trafford were cropping up all window, and this latest rumour says that the super agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed that the offer took place.
In total the deal was worth a huge €70million, with €30million in bonuses and add-ons up for grabs for SL Benfica, based on performances and team related success.
Signing Sanches would be a huge gamble, with Louis van Gaal struggling as it is, it wouldn’t really make sense to take a punt on young talent, rather than proven quality.
