Anthony Martial made no bones about the fact that he wanted to leave Old Trafford this summer.
He didn’t get his wish, a move away didn’t come to fruition. However, that hasn’t stopped potential suitors keeping a watchful eye on the brilliant 22-year-old.
One such club is Juventus. Italian media outlet, Calciomercato, per Football365, are stating that the Old Lady are trying to persuade Martial to run down his current United deal, in order for them to land the Frenchman on a free transfer.
However, for them, that’d mean having to wait until the summer of 2020. Martial’s current contract runs down in 2019, but the club have the option to extend that for a further year if they so choose; obviously, they’ll do exactly that in order to ensure that they don’t lose the talented winger without getting a penny whatsoever in terms of transfer fee.
Martial’s a great player, there is no doubting that fact. My issue with him comes in the form of him wanting out at the first sign of trouble. Football, at the highest level, is a squad game. You’re not going to start every week; particularly in front of a player like Alexis Sanchez.
I find it odd that things on this front went quiet until after the aforementioned Chilean had a blinding game at the weekend. Who knows, maybe the player is starting to leak information as he knows he won’t be winning his place back any time soon…
