Tahith Chong back in training following thigh surgery

Tahith Chong is back out on the grass following a serious injury.

Manchester United plays host to plenty of up-and-coming stars. However, there’s just simply not enough minutes to go around.

One player who certainly falls into that bracket is Tahith Chong. The Dutchman has been on the fringes of the first-team for at least a couple of years, without making that permanent breakthrough.

The winger/midfielder would head to Birmingham City on loan last summer, in order to play regularly and develop as a player. However, he’d suffer a cruel injury blow, back in November. The attacker was expected to be out for four months, so he returned to Old Trafford.

Well, I’m pleased to report the United starlet is now back in training, three months after suffering the problem. I’d imagine the four-month timeframe still rings true as he’ll need some time to build up his fitness before even being considered for a return to competitive action.

Chong had been putting on a show in the Championship with Birmingham before this injury, which is why I’m delighted to hear that he is expected to go back there to finish the job.

The fans over at Birmingham had started to really enjoy what Chong was doing, while a positional switch into a midfield role definitely benefitted the youngster. Who knows, that may well have given United an idea about where his long-term future lies.

For the 22-year-old, it’s now about working hard for the remainder of the season, impressing, and coming back to Old Trafford with a real point to prove this summer. There’s no doubt he’ll be involved in our pre-season tour (assuming we’re planning one this time around).

It’s good to see you back out there, Chongy!
