Tahith Chong could leave Man United and seal Feyenoord return this summer

Man United winger Tahith Chong could move back to Feyenoord this summer.

The quality of young talent at Manchester United is there for all to see. At both U18 and U23 level, the club is thriving. Sadly, though, there’s just too many players to dish out enough minutes to.

One player who hasn’t really kicked on as much as we’d all have hoped is Tahith Chong. The Dutchman certainly looked the part during the early days of his United stay, though that initial buzz has quickly fizzled out.

During limited first-team appearances, Chong hasn’t really looked up to the required standard. Hence, loan moves to Werder Bremen, Club Brugge and Birmingham City.

The winger actually looked pretty sharp for Birmingham last term, before cruel injury struck.

Now, 1908.nl have an update on Chong’s future. Apparently, the Dutchman ‘can return’ to Feyenoord – the club where he spent his youth career.

They say that Feyenoord talks with the winger are ‘imminent’, while stressing that the United attacker ‘must be released’ before his contract expires in 2023. Presumably, United do not want to risk losing Chong for free in twelve months’ time.

No transfer fee is mentioned in the story, though you’d imagine it’d be a pretty minimal amount given Chong is entering into the final year of his deal.

I guess the United mountain was just too big for Chong. That’s no knock on his ability, it’s just that the Dutchman was always up against it. During his time here, the Reds were well-stocked in the wide areas, meaning the chances to start games at the first-team level were extremely limited.

A move away on a permanent basis definitely feels like the best move for all involved, particularly with United still looking to bring in another attacker this summer.
