Tahith Chong has surgery on ruptured thigh tendon, out for at least 4 months

Tahith Chong’s 2021/22 season may well already be over…

Manchester United Football Club have a whole host of emerging talents on their books. Sadly for those guys, some will have to leave on loan to find their minutes elsewhere.

One player in that group was Tahith Chong. The fluffy-haired Dutchman was spending this season with Birmingham City – where he was greatly impressing in the Championship.

However, that loan move has now been ended due to injury. Sadly for Chong, it’s a lengthy issue. The United starlet has been dealt a cruel injury blow as he’s suffered a ruptured thigh tendon. He’s now out for at least four months, with a 4-5 month timeframe placed upon his rehabilitation.

United confirmed the news on their website yesterday, with Chong returning to Old Trafford to undergo the knife, then complete his rehab here in Manchester.

This is just sad. Chong was loving life with Birmingham, improving as a footballer week-in-week-out while his confidence was flowing.

Now, his morale will be through the floor and the rehab is going to be long and stressful. I’d be surprised if he takes to the field again this season, with him not being close to returning to fitness until April…

It does beg the question. What next for Chong? This injury may well have cost him his long-term place at United, because now, he’s going to need another six months to get fully up to speed upon his return.

I do wonder whether this could spell the end of his time here at Old Trafford, particularly as his contract expires next summer.

Get well soon, Tahith!
