Tahith Chong named MOTM following top loan display

Tahith Chong continues to impress while out on loan at Birmingham City.

Manchester United’s squad had to be thinned out somewhat due to the signings made this summer, with several young players departing on loan.

Amongst those was Tahith Chong. The talented winger has been on the fringes of the first-team over the last couple of seasons, without really pushing on and cementing that breakthrough.

This year, he’ll spend the campaign with Birmingham City in the Championship. From day one, Chong has earned rave reviews from Birmingham coaches and fans alike.

It all started with a positional change, with the Dutchman sitting deeper in midfield and benefitting greatly from that.

Well, last night, his top form continued as he was at the heart of Birmingham City’s 2-0 victory over Wayne Rooney’s Derby County.

The 21-year-old loanee would win the Man of the Match award, which he was all-smiles about following the game.

It’s always great when you see young players flourish elsewhere. Chong has earned some really big fans already while playing for the Midlands club and I have to be honest, that restores my faith in him as a player.

I was starting to have doubts because he never really stands out, though credit to Lee Bowyer, who has moved him into the midfield and we’re now starting to see all that talent flow out.

This has to be just the start for the young man. If Chong can continue in this manner all season long, then why can’t he come back to Old Trafford and challenge for a first-team place next summer?

For now, it’s about doing his best for Birmingham and giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a real problem in 2022 upon his return.

Congratulations and keep it up, Tahith!
