Last summer was one to forget for Manchester United. The club failed to back Jose Mourinho and that eventually cost him his job.
It goes without saying that things are far better under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but he will need money to spend. Hopefully, he’ll get that chance.
Now, a report from Don Balon is claiming that Real Madrid star Marco Asensio is actively seeking a move to Old Trafford. That certainly wouldn’t have happened a few months ago…
They say that the talented 23-year-old wants to join United after a fallout over lack of playing time with current Madrid boss, Santiago Solari.
United themselves aren’t willing to pay more than £69million to acquire the attacking midfielder, which, in this day and age, would be an excellent deal.
This is a player who has huge potential with massive room for growth and improvement. There is no doubt that he’d improve practically any squad in world football; United is no exception.
The attacking midfield position is an area in which United have struggled over recent years, and Asensio would give the club another dimension and option.
If the deal is right then this move certainly makes sense, so let’s hope Edward Woodward can pull it off.
