For the first time in at least a half-decade, there are question marks being raised about Manchester United’s goalkeeper.
David de Gea’s struggles have been evident while we have a more than capable back-up in the form of Sergio Romero. Then, you have Dean Henderson who is extremely talented and still learning.
In fact, the Englishman helped Sheffield United towards Premier League promotion while spending the season out on loan with The Blades. Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, he’s set for talks with the Red Devils about his future.
The MEN state that Henderson wants to extend his Sheffield United loan by a further year, while also adding that the club could negotiate a new contract for the talented 22-year-old.
Firstly, getting Henderson a year of Premier League football under his belt could be huge. Playing week-in-week-out while on loan for the last two years has been huge for his career, each year, he has taken a step up in division. Why not continue that trend?
Secondly, giving him a new long-term contract on improved wages sends a message of belief to the player from the club. This lad has the ability to be a top-class goalkeeper in the future, so why not back their next potential number one?
