Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set for a huge opportunity to impress manager Jose Mourinho on pre-season tour.
That’s according to ESPN. The report adds that no final decision has been made on the future of the immensely talented Dutchman, and that’ll be made depending on his performances while out in the United States.
The 20-year-old is set to return to Old Trafford in July following a hugely successful loan spell at Crystal Palace, and now it looks as though Fosu-Mensah will have to impress while on tour if he wants to be a Red Devils regular during 2018/19.
Under Louis van Gaal, Fosu-Mensah became a mainstay in United’s starting XI, even playing a few games for the Netherlands national team. Since Jose Mourinho took charge though, he’s barely featured – and largely had to settle for cameo appearances off the substitutes bench.
Now he’s had a full year of week-in-week-out football under his belt, no doubt he’s playing at a level better than ever before. Luckily for him, the defence has been a real problem area for United and he could well get a huge opportunity this forthcoming season.
Another huge plus for Fosu-Mensah is the versatility. He can pretty much play all across the back four, as well as in midfield if needs be.
