Man United are now talking to Zinedine Zidane about taking the manager’s job…
It felt like this international break was the perfect time to relieve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his duties and move in a different direction. After all, two-week breaks don’t happen very often in domestic football.
Well, the Old Trafford outfit have decided to keep Solskjaer in place for the time being – though apparently, it’s not for the want of trying. Several names are now linked with the hot-seat, with a new name thrown into the mix; Zinedine Zidane…
This rumour felt like an inevitability. Zidane is currently out of work following doing some outstanding work with Real Madrid.
Now, self-proclaimed transfer insider, Pedro Almeida, has an update on United’s pursuit of Zidane.
Apparently, talks are ongoing between United and the 49-year-old manager. However, Almeida admits that any potential deal will be ‘difficult’ as Zidane’s preference is to become the French national team manager.
Check out Pedro Almeida’s Instagram post here:
I understand the attraction of the France job, though Didier Deschamps is doing a good job for Les Bleus and I don’t see him being replaced before the World Cup in 2022. Unless Zidane is planning on hanging on for at least another twelve months, he may have to look elsewhere…
One thing you cannot argue with is Zidane’s CV. He’s been outstanding for Real Madrid, winning trophy after trophy during his first (and only) major managerial job.
His experience of controlling big players is undoubtedly his number one selling point, while the allure of working with countryman Paul Pogba is no doubt one of United’s biggest selling points for the Frenchman.
I still believe this one is a bit of a gamble, though. Zidane is still somewhat of an unknown quantity and despite his obvious tactical flexibility, there’s no way of knowing whether he can succeed here in England. Is it a risk worth taking? Probably.
