Manchester United have had a ten-day break since the end of the Premier League season. Now, it’s time for their return in the Europa League. The squad has been named, enter, Teden Mengi.
Yes, that’s right. Mengi has been included in the Red Devils’ 30-man squad. The full list was confirmed on the official United website rather quietly this morning.
The talented 18-year-old is now eligible to play in the Europa League, with this being his first inclusion at senior level.
It came shortly after we covered a story in which both Luke Shaw and Axel Tuanzebe were ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. It does make sense calling up Mengi, given how light United look in the centre-back position.
Mengi is looking to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood. All of whom are now first-team regulars, and make no mistake about it, Mengi has the talent to make his mark.
It comes down to how much Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trusts the centre-back. As of right now, though, he’s probably sixth in the pecking order. There is a chance he starts against LASK Linz tomorrow night, mind, as the Baby Faced Assassin should be looking to rest his regular starters.
There was also a place in the squad for the young midfield duo of Ethan Galbraith and James Garner, while it’s good to see Nathan Bishop and Tahith Chong named also.
