Erik ten Hag has confirmed that four recently injured players are available for selection tonight.
Manchester United Football Club sit locked at 2-2 against Sevilla, despite dominating the first leg at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag will be disappointed with the capitulation in the last fifteen minutes, though the overall control the Reds had on the game before the injuries must have been encouraging. Play like that again tonight and United have a great chance at progressing into a European semi-final.
The lads cannot allow themselves to switch off mentally as Sevilla, albeit this is not a well-rounded-a-side as teams of the past, are dangerous. They’ve already shown that.
Anyway, ahead of the game, United have been given a much-needed injury boost with four players back and available following injury. All of Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Marcel Sabitzer and Marcus Rashford travelled. They’re all ready to play if needed.
When asked about Malacia, Shaw, Sabitzer & Rashford, the gaffer responded:
“They are available because that’s why they’re on the airplane,” Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com.
“I will take my decisions tomorrow, today we trained and we will see what the reaction is and then tomorrow we will take a decision.
“You always want to keep players fit, which is the main objective, besides of course the main objective: win the game.”
Obviously, some problems are more serious than others. Sabitzer has barely missed any time, the same goes for Malacia. You’d imagine those two are certainly in contention to start if needed.
Rashy and Shaw have been out a little longer. Almost two weeks to be exact. There may be a little rustiness to shake off before they’re ready to play for 90 minutes, so these guys could be better utilised as late subs if needed here – particularly with the games still coming thick and fast at this stage in the season. The last thing United need is to make these problems worse.
As for Shaw, there’s a very good chance he returns to that centre-back role before the season is out due to injuries to Rapha Varane and Licha Martinez. Whereas I’m also excited to see Rashford and Anthony Martial play together again.
