The latest reports suggest Wout Weghorst could be dropped for Man United this weekend.
Manchester United Football Club dropped two points in midweek, against a struggling Leeds United side. The Red Devils caused all their own problems in this fixture, though it was good to see the lads make some sort of fightback at 2-0 down.
The main problem came in the final third. Alejandro Garnacho was having an off-night, whereas Marcus Rashford looked like the only attacking threat as Wout Weghorst also struggled.
Now, with United taking on Leeds again this weekend, Erik ten Hag is thinking about making a change.
It’s The Sun with the claim, who state that Ten Hag is ‘considering ditching’ the 30-year-old from the starting line-up for the Leeds game this weekend.
Weghorst has struck just once in seven games for his new club since joining – though that doesn’t tell the whole story. At times, his hold-up play has been superb.
The Dutchman was always viewed as a short-term option – and we’re now starting to see why. He’s not going to give you that production on a game-by-game basis.
United’s problem comes down to Anthony Martial’s inability to stay fit. The Frenchman should be leading the line on a regular basis for the Red Devils, though the fact he’s spent far too much time in the treatment table is putting that bit of extra pressure on Weghorst.
Going into the Leeds game, United need pace to get in-behind their high line. A front three of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho feels like the move, though that depends on whether the gaffer deems Sancho fit enough to start matches.
