Ten Hag explains how he wants his Man United side to play

Erik ten Hag has given us all an insight as to how he’d like his Man United team to play.

It’s understandable, we’re all excited about Erik ten Hag as Manchester United manager.

After the torrid times over the last decade or so, we all want something to believe in. Whether or not Ten Hag will deliver the goods, only time will tell.

Our Dutch boss certainly talks the talk, though, while he has an extremely impressive CV from his time in Holland with Ajax.

Ahead of the pre-season tour starting, Ten Hag has explained how he’d like his United side to set up style-wise – and it’s exactly what we all expected.

United want to play an offensive style of football, full of energy, effort and commitment. As he states, it’s up to the players to work hard, enjoy their football and remain focused.

Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say in full here:

“Of course, I want to bring the energy in my team,” he told ManUtd.com. “But I must say, the players do really well. They are really focused. They bring, for themselves, the energy.

“You see they enjoy playing football. They enjoy playing football together and they really work well together.”

“I have to learn, to know my squad, the personnel, the individuals, the players,” he said.

“That is, I think, one of the biggest advantages from the tour. We have two weeks to work really close together and we will learn about each other because I want to learn about them and they want to learn about me, my coaches and assistants.”

“We want to play a proactive style of football,” he stressed. “On the ball and off the ball. Trying to do that has to be our intention. The coaches bring it over to the team that we are, in every situation, proactive.

“We are brave and willing to have the ball, to give each other options. But also off the ball, to get the pressing style is what we’re working for together.”

Obviously, it’s going to take time for this squad to adjust to this new way of playing. After all, these lads have had it fairly easy under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. I fully expect these guys will need at least a few months to build up their fitness levels in order to play with the required effort and intensity.

I’m just so eager to see how it unfolds during pre-season tour. It’s a completely fresh way of playing but I’m looking forward to seeing this United team put a shift in and wear that badge with pride.

Sure, they’ll be hiccups and road bumps aplenty on the way, so part of our job is to remain patient and try to enjoy the journey as much as physically possible.
