Thomas Meunier very close to completing £22m Man United move: report

In terms of needs for Manchester United this summer, signing a new right-back must be sitting high atop the priority list.

Antonio Valencia has left, I think Matteo Darmian will follow suit, while who knows how long Ashley Young has left in him…

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s name has been floating around for a few months now, although a player that has gone somewhat under the radar is Thomas Meunier – until now anyway…

According to Belgium based media outlet La Derniere Heure, the 27-year-old Belgium international is ‘very close’ to a move to United, with the Reds looking to complete a €25m (£22m) deal ‘quickly’.

Apparently, Meunier was a ‘big fan’ of United growing up, with the right-back set to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Although there were ‘several possibilities’ for the defender, including a move to Arsenal, it seems as though the Old Trafford club have won the race to sign him.

This would be the perfect signing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Meunier would be a huge upgrade on what we have in the right-back slot, while the fact that he supported United as a boy should mean he’d be willing to put in the effort and fight for the badge.

Meunier is quick, tall, physically dominant and has a real engine on him. The ability to bomb up and down that right-hand flank will be something United will have to get used to once again, as we’ve been massively deprived of that recently…

Hopefully, a deal is pushed through in the not too distant future as United look to kick-start the summer transfer window in style.
