Man United now have Thomas Tuchel atop their managerial wish list.
As we know all too well, Manchester United are on a full search for a new manager. Ralf Rangnick is only here until the end of the season, with just nine Premier League games left for the German.
Finding the next man at the helm is crucial. At this point, the Red Devils cannot afford to make a bad hire. Our problems go way beyond who is in the dugout, sure, but still, this club needs to find someone they can place genuine long-term faith in.
Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and even Rangnick himself have been talked up as the most likely options. Now, another name has been added to the mix in the wake of Chelsea’s ownership disaster; Thomas Tuchel.
The story comes from the Daily Star who make a pretty bold statement. Apparently, the 48-year-old is not only under consideration, but he’s overtaken Pochettino as United’s new first-choice permanent hire.
To further add to that, United’s CEO, Richard Arnold, wants to acquire Tuchel before the end of the season. As ambitious as that may sound, it could be possible given the Stamford Bridge turmoil right now – though I’d still be surprised as Tuchel is an extremely loyal coach and I just don’t see him doing that to Chelsea in the middle of a season.
I have to be honest, I’ve been underwhelmed with what I’ve seen from Poch’s PSG which is making me doubt whether he’s good enough to turn this side into serial winners.
Tuchel, on the other hand, has been mightily impressive at Chelsea. He’s built a winning machine over there, while his recent Premier League experience would stand him in good stead if he were to move to Manchester.
As with any new hire, it takes time to implement new tactics, systems and formations. If Tuchel is the man who United choose, it’s down to us fans to do our bit and be patient while he gets us playing the way he wants.
