Thomas Vermaelen has £100k-a-week verbal agreement with United

Arsenal’s sought-after centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, has a verbal agreement to join Manchester United – according to The Telegraph. The 28-year old is subject to an official £10million bid from Barcelona, but the Belgian is waiting for an official offer from Manchester United.

Vermaelen is set to earn £100,000-a-week to make the switch to Old Trafford, which is set to trump his current £70,000 a week he fetches in at Arsenal. Despite being captain, Vermaelen has found himself out of the team over the past twelve months, due to an excellent partnership between Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker forming.

Louis van Gaal traditionally likes to have one left-footed centre-back across his defence, so Vermaelen would fit the bill in that sense. The only concern is the problematic injury record that Vermaelen has. Although if given regular playing time, he may recoup in fitness and avoid injury for the forseeable future.

I like the idea of Vermaelen coming to United. He’s an all-round excellent defender. At the end of the day, he’s the captain of a prestigious club like Arsenal, and is attracting interest from two huge clubs in the form of Barcelona and Manchester United.
