Manchester United didn’t bring any signings in during the January transfer window, with Louis van Gaal finding it tough to force clubs into selling their prized assets. However the summer could be much different, and there will certainly be plenty of money spent by the Premier League.
Our club certainly look thin on the ground in terms of centre-backs at this point in time, with only Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Phil Jones recognised for playing in that area, so we’ve taken a look at three players who we could bring in to give us more options there.
First up on that list is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane. The Frenchman is without doubt one of the best talents in world football at the moment, and already is emerging as a senior centre-back for the France national team and Real Madrid. Prising him away from the Spanish capital certainly won’t be easy, but money talks and if the player is willing, the move could happen.
Second is another Frenchman who plays in Spain, but this time for Athletic Club Bilbao; Aymeric Laporte. The 21-year old is an outstanding specimens in terms of physicality and presence. I haven’t seen many better headers of the ball and his positioning is outstanding for such a young man.
Finally we have a Brazilian who plays his football in Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain. That man is Marquinhos. He is also just 21-years old, and is also regarded as one of the best prospects in the game. PSG paid a massive €30million to bring him in, but has found his game time limited and could well want a move away. Old Trafford would be the perfect place for him.
