Three defenders who Manchester United could sign this summer

Manchester United and Louis van Gaal refused to bring in any centre-backs over the summer, with the Dutchman opting to switch Daley Blind into a defender, as he can clearly read the game well enough and pass out from the back.

However that is likely to change this summer, so we’ve decided to have a look at three very different options United can invest in when the transfer window opens.

Aymeric Laporte – The youngest, and probably most expensive man on the list. Laporte is regarded as one of the hottest properties in world football at the moment and its easy to see why.

His defensive abilities are already world class, and Bilbao would probably be tempted into selling him if the fee was right.

Jan Vertonghen – The Spurs man has been there and done it in England over the last few years, and has been very successful. He’d be a fantastic bit of business and can slot right in straight away.

Louis van Gaal loves a left-footer and a right-footer, meaning Vertonghen would be the perfect partner for Chris Smalling. The only issue could come if Spurs win the league this term – would he really want to leave White Hart Lane?

Joao Miranda – The most experienced defender out of the three – but still extremely talented nonetheless. He’d bring a leadership to our side that has been lacking since the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand left. Inter Milan wouldn’t ask for an astronomical fee for him either, and you cannot imagine the Brazilian would cost too much in wages.
