Manchester United would have hoped for a better opening month to the Premier League campaign. That much is obvious.
However, in amongst all the madness, there have actually been some positives to take away from a hectic August.
Four Premier League games were played, five points have been won. It’s fair to say this team is still finding its identity but the encouraging signs are there.
Anyway, United today confirmed their three star nominees for the 2019 August Player of the Month award; and the players who’re up for the honour says an awful lot in itself…
Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James are the names in contention. All of whom are new signings.
First and foremost, it lets us know that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can be trusted when it comes to spending money. These three have all made a positive impact since making the move to Old Trafford and it’s superb to have a manager who actually identifies targets to fit the scheme.
For the players it must be encouraging as they now know they’re doing their bit. James’ goals have been crucial, Wan-Bissaka’s tackles have been crunching and Maguire’s leadership and overall defensive skill is as clear as day.
Genuinely, any one of the three could win it, but for me, I’d probably give the nod to Wan-Bissaka as he has been consistently excellent.
Good luck, lads!
