Manchester United have been doing enough to get by and keep racking up the wins this term, but they certainly came unstuck yesterday afternoon as they were hammered 3-0 by Arsene Wenger and Arsenal.
The loss highlighted some poor performances by particular individuals, and we’ve picked out three players who we feel should be dropped, at least in the short term.
The first player who needs some time out has to be Wayne Rooney. He has been absolutely atrocious at the start of this season and doesn’t look like any kind of leader whatsoever. He has looked lost at times, slow, struggling to find his teammates and lacked any real desire.
Second up is Memphis Depay. The Dutchman has been hit and miss, but for the most part has struggled with the pace of the game in the Premier League. Over the last few weeks he has done next-to-nothing domestically and it might be time to drop him to the bench for a couple of games whilst he continues to adjust. That said, there aren’t many alternatives out wide, but Andreas Pereira could be a good option.
Perhaps my most controversial opinion is the fact that Michael Carrick needs some time on the bench. His passing has been woeful at times this season, and against Arsenal he couldn’t get anything going whatsoever.
I’d like to see Louis van Gaal find some place for Ander Herrera in the side, and whether that be in the place of either Wayne Rooney or Michael Carrick I’d be happy.
