Manchester United continue their Champions League campaign this midweek, with Louis van Gaal’s side sitting second in the group at the moment. United play host to CSKA Moscow in a must-win game if his men are to top group B.
Coming off the back of three consecutive 0-0 draws changes have to be made, and we’ve decided to look at three players we think should be left out of the starting XI on Tuesday night.
The first one is obvious – Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United striker has struggled all-season and many fans have been calling for him to sit out for a while. This could be the perfect game to do so, whilst giving Anthony Martial a chance to show exactly what he can do up front.
Second is Michael Carrick who has looked a shadow of his former self at the start of this term. Last season he was at the heart of everything good for United, but at this point in time he is struggling to find a red shirt. Bastian Schweinsteiger has been by far and away the more effective midfielder as we approach the winter transfer window.
Our final choose is a bit of a different one – Chris Smalling. The central defender has played every minute of competitive football for Manchester United this term, and he more than deserves a rest. Its not really a case of dropping him, more like letting him gain some much-needed match fitness.
