Three players Manchester United should sell in January

Manchester United Football Club had a turgid summer transfer window. However, Edward Woodward has the chance to right those wrongs in January.

Jose Mourinho needs help. He’s an excellent manager, who, when provided with the right tools, is more than capable of winning silverware. Not only do the Red Devils need incoming signings, but United could also let a few players go, too…

Here are three United players who we think should be sold in January.

Phil Jones

Ah, the next Duncan Edwards, as the great Sir Bobby Charlton once claimed… It’s fair to say that it hasn’t really worked out for Jones at United – which is a real shame. Nobody can deny his talent, however, his injury history is just horrific.

A club of United’s stature shouldn’t carry anyone through a torrid injury career, and, quite frankly, he’s taking up space in the squad of someone like Timothy Fosu-Mensah or Axel Tuanzebe who could come in and do a better job.

Matteo Darmian

I feel sorry for Matteo Darmian. The Italian always gives his all when he’s out on the field, but over the summer, it felt like a move away was the best outcome for all involved. Juventus were eying a deal for the right-back, but due to injuries at the time, Mourinho decided to keep him around.

Since the opening few weeks of the season, Darmian hasn’t played a meaningful minute of football. That’s just not fair, and I hope that he gets his wish on January 1st.

Antonio Valencia

Last, but not least, we have Antonio Valencia. The ma from Ecuador is starting to look his age (33). His biggest asset was sheer pace, now, he’s beginning to lose that.

Many forget that he’s not a right-back by trade, and you can often see that in his positioning and lack of knowledge as to when to bomb up the field or when to hold back. He has been a brilliant servant to United, but it’s about time that the Reds moved on from him and gave Diogo Dalot hs opportunity.
