With Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United arrival looking likely, the Portuguese manager will want to introduce his own ideas and philosophies into the squad. That will take time, and he’ll have to part wth plenty of players he deems surplus to requirements.
We’ve decided to take a look at three faces who we could well see the self-proclaimed Special One sell this summer.
Juan Mata – This one is obvious. Jose Mourinho infamously sold Mata to United a couple of years ago, in a deal worth in excess of £37million. He claimed that the Spaniard doesn’t fit his style of play, and unless Mourinho is ready to change his tactics, it looks as though he’ll be on his way out.
Marouane Fellaini – The much-maligned Belgian has been heavily criticised at times this season, despite playing brilliantly of late. The fact that this man just doesn’t fit the United mould still remains though, and although Mourinho likes that powerhouse in the middle of the park, you’d imagine he’ll prefer Morgan Schneiderlin.
Phil Jones – Mourinho loves to work with a small group of players who can keep themselves fit. Phil Jones doesn’t fit that mantra despite his talents, and he could well leave if United can find a buyer. Its been a real shame for Jones because he clearly has immense ability, but that becomes useless if he can’t get himself off the treatment table.
