If there was anything that symbolises the end of the Jose Mourinho era at Manchester United, it was ensuring Marouane Fellaini was the first big name to leave Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has worked wonders both on and off the pitch since taking over at the Theatre of Dreams. For that, he deserves huge credit.
Although the Belgium international won’t be replaced until the summer, United’s squad is suddenly looking rather thin in a key area of the field. With that in mind, we’ve decided to look at three potential options that whoever the next permanent manager is can explore…
Tanguy Ndombele
The 22-year-old currently plies his trade for Lyon in Ligue 1. He’s having a massive breakthrough season in 2018/19 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see top clubs galore chasing his signature when the transfer window opens.
Great in possession, quick, and a strong passer, he’d help United to continue to move in a more attack-minded direction. However, the Frenchman would likely command a huge transfer fee, but it’s not like United cannot afford it…
Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey has been plying his trade for Atletico Madrid since 2015, although last year was by far his best. The Ghanian is defensive-minded, and’ he’d provide good cover for an ageing Nemanja Matic.
Aged 25, Partey is rapidly approaching his prime, while still improving constantly due to being exposed to regular football at a high level. Atleti would obviously prefer to keep him at the club, but with a huge offer, they could be persuaded to cash in…
Allan
Now I know United haven’t had much luck with Brazilian’s, but Allan could change that. The Napoli midfielder has been sensational over the last few years, so-much-so that Pep Guardiola tried to sign him just last summer.
Aged 28, he’d offer experience aplenty, while having the mobility that Premier League football requires. Although like the others on this list, he’s not as physically dominant as Fellaini, United are trying to move in a different direction and this would be a wonderful acquisition.
