Timo Werner a ‘serious’ Man United transfer target, player open to move

Timo Werner is being eyed by Man United as a fix for their striker issues, with the player possibly keen on a transfer.

Manchester United need to bring in a new striker. Preferably in the January transfer window.

Erik ten Hag is looking like saying goodbye to Anthony Martial, while Rasmus Hojlund, for all his qualities, has only scored once in the Premier League. The young Dane needs help, particularly if the Frenchman does depart the Theatre of Dreams.

Timo Werner, who is widely considered a Chelsea flop, could be a genuine possibility for the 20-time Premier League champions.

It’s The Mirror with the story, who in their title, claim that the 27-year-old striker has emerged as a ‘serious’ United transfer target.

It’s also claimed that the forward would be ‘open’ to a United switch, completing a Premier League return in the process.

It’s stated that RB Leipzig would be open to allowing Werner to go out on loan, but only if he moves to a club where he’d play regularly. That may not be the case here in Manchester as Hojlund would probably remain the first choice striker.

On a six-month loan deal, United could do worse than Werner. He’d certainly bring in a positive attitude and working mentality, which is never a bad thing given that many players in this squad just seem to wilt under any kind of pressure.

Werner’s issue is both fitness and finishing. But then again, he wouldn’t be readily available in the January transfer market if he was the perfect player. I’d worry about his ability to stay injury free over a five-month period, while the German would probably need three or four guilt-edged chances before you’d feel confident in him finding the back of the net.
