Timothy Fosu-Mensah is all set to leave Manchester United and join Bayer Leverkusen.
Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s biggest success at Manchester United thus far has been his work in the transfer market.
The Baby Faced Assassin has signed some incredible players, while also doing a stellar job at clearing out the dead-wood.
That trend looks set to continue, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah now facing an exit. The story comes in the form of an exclusive from the Manchester Evening News. Who states that the 23-year-old first-teamer is set to seal a move away from Old Trafford.
Apparently, the Dutchman is close to agreeing a £1.5m deal that’ll send him to Bundesliga high-flyers, Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer is expected to go through this month as if this were to be a summer move, there would be no fee involved as that’s when Fosu-Mensah’s current contract expires.
Despite the fact that Fosu-Mensah has only played three games this season, interest in him across the continent is still there. Both Ajax and Hertha Berlin were also keen, though it looks like Leverkusen who have won the race.
Fosu-Mensah to Leverkusen signals progress for United
For so long, Manchester United have been terrible when it comes to selling. The Reds have a tendency to try and protect their asset, handing sub-par players lengthy contracts – then struggling to sell them on.
This time, they’ve resisted the urge to offer Fosu-Mensah another deal. Instead, they’re looking to get him off the books as soon as possible while getting some sort of transfer fee for him too.
It’s a shame it never really worked out for Fosu-Mensah in Manchester. He’s obviously an immensely talented young man, though injuries have massively derailed his young career.
The good news for the versatile Dutchman? There’s still plenty of time for him to make a name for himself in the footballing world. This move to Bayer would well be the making of him.
