Toby Alderweireld hasn’t joined Man United due to one key reason: report

Manchester United haven’t signed Toby Alderweireld due to a disagreement in price.

That’s according to Sky Sports News, per the Daily Express. Apparently, there is a £20million disparity between the Red Devils and Tottenham Hotspur, and obviously, it’s going to take a little time to iron out those differences; that’s if they even manage to find middle-ground.

The report also adds that Spurs are keen admirers of United’s Anthony Martial, whereas presumably, Jose Mourinho would prefer to keep him at Old Trafford AND bring in Alderweireld.

This latest news is in contrast to what we’ve heard earlier this week, suggesting that the deal should now move forward following Belgium’s World Cup exit, but I’d also plump for Sky’s inside knowledge over anyone else.

I genuinely hope that the clubs can come to an agreement. Alderweireld wasn’t featuring towards the back end of last season, which to me is a clear indication he wants to leave. In terms of fit, he’d suit Mourinho football like a glove.

We’re crying out for an experienced, Premier League proven, centre-half, who can slot in seamlessly alongside Eric Bailly. At 29, that veteran presence would be brought in abundance, but with the shorter transfer window this term, United, namely Edward Woodward, will have to act quick.
