Erik ten Hag continued that mantra with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo over the last couple fo seasons. This time around, it could be Toby Collyer’s turn to make the breakthrough.
We’ve been waxing lyrical about Collyer ever since his first tour minutes against Rosenborg over in Sweden. He has only gotten better and better from that point.
Now, Forbes have shared a detailed article about what the future holds for Collyer, with their author, Sam Pilger, speaking highly of the young Englishman.
The 20-year-old from Worthing has recently signed a new deal, meaning he can now focus fully on working hard in order to earn his place in the Reds team.
Fores add that United believe they have a ‘rare talent’ on their books, before adding that the player is ‘expected’ to make his first-team debut early on in the new season.
First and foremost, this lets us all know that United have zero plans to let Collyer leave on loan this season. He will be kept in and around the first-team fold, which is fantastic news.
I genuinely believe it will not take Collyer long to break into the side, particularly if Casemiro’s sub-par performances continue. Collyer currently looks a level above his Brazilian counterpart, which may be a bold statement to make
Collyer has to continue impressing during pre-season tour and I have every faith in the Englishman being given meaningful minutes in the Community Shield, which takes place in just under two weeks’ time.
