Tom Heaton’s move to Manchester United was only confirmed earlier today, now, we have the first official shot of him in action.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping room was looking a little bare following the departure of both Sergio Romero and Joel Pereira. Well, it didn’t take the Old Trafford club long to fill that void with Tom Heaton.
The 35-year-old will be a familiar face to the older Reds amongst us, with Heaton starting his professional career at the Theatre of Dreams – before going on to enjoy success with both Burnley and Aston Villa.
Now, over a decade after departing, Heaton is coming home. United have signed the Englishman on an initial two-year deal, presumably to back up both David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
Well, United aren’t hanging around with official photos of United’s newest signing in training already out there on the Twitterverse. As Patrice Evra would say, you absolutely love to see it.

I actually think that this is a really smart addition to the squad. Heaton is experienced and he’ll definitely be able to teach the younger members of the squad a thing or two.
First and foremost, Heaton is an excellent goalkeeper in his own right. If either Henderson or De Gea were moved on, I’d have no qualms with the Chester-born shot-stopper being our back-up.
I actually think Heaton will get his fair share of minutes in 2021/22 and he’d absolutely deserve them. It all starts on pre-season tour, where he’ll probably be our first-choice in the early-going due to Hendo and De Gea’s participation in the European Championships.
Welcome home, Tom!
