Man United are closing in on their first signing of the summer in the form of Tom Heaton.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United have improved year-on-year. After finishing second in the Premier League and reaching our first final, the Red Devils need a big summer transfer window to take that next step.
Well, it looks as if the Old Trafford club are closing in on their first summer signing in the form of Tom Heaton.
According to the usually reliable Fabrizio Romano, Heaton’s medical is set for this week, with the star set to sign for United as the ‘deal is done and completed’.
Heaton will put pen to paper on a two year deal with the option for a further year, with an official confirmation expected in July.
Obviously, Heaton is being brought in as a direct replacement for Sergio Romero, who has left Old Trafford for pastures new this summer.
It’s worth remembering that Heaton has been on United’s books before and he’s an excellent back-up goalkeeper to have in and around the dressing room. The 35-year-old from Chester knows this club inside out and having his experience could be vital.
This is a great career move back closer to his home at the perfect time. Heaton knows he won’t start every game, though they’ll be plenty of minutes to go around – particularly if one of David de Gea or Dean Henderson does depart.
I’ll feel more than comfortable having Heaton in between the sticks. He’s an excellent shot-stopper and a real on-field leader. This is an astute signing by Solskjaer, and a good way to kick off the summer.
Romano also offers us a snippet on Jadon Sancho, with negotiations still ‘ongoing’.
