Tom Heaton has been pictured in training with his new Man United teammates for the first time.
Yesterday, Manchester United players began their return to first-team training following the summer off.
As is always the case, the Red Devil’s return to the AON Training Complex in dribs and drabs. Obviously, that’s even more likely to happen this summer with both EURO 2020 and the Copa America being played.
I’m pleased to report that there was a pretty heavy contingent out there on the field yesterday – including Tom Heaton, who made his return to Old Trafford this summer.
The United summer signing was pictured in training with his new teammates for the first time. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that Heaton has seemingly been given his shirt number, too. The 35-year-old was wearing number 22.
United’s goalkeeper-room is incredibly stacked. Dean Henderson and David de Gea sit at the forefront, while Lee Grant will also have something to say about where Heaton actually sits in the pecking order.
I really do like this signing, though. Heaton knows his way around Carrington, while his experience will only be a positive for the rest of the young players in that dressing room.
For what it’s worth, I also think the Chester-born shot-stopper will get several chances to start games. He’s a great goalkeeper within his own right and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s installed as our cup goalie from day one.
It’s nice to see him out there on the training pitch, that’s for sure!
