Tony Cascarino says Aaron Ramsey to Man United links ‘make a lot of sense’

Manchester United Football Club made a move for Bruno Fernandes as the January transfer window was winding down, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bolstering his midfield options amid an injury crisis.

Fernandes looked pretty solid on debut though I’m sure his best is yet to come. However, with Paul Pogba’s future remaining up in the air, the 20-time Premier League champions may need further help.

Well, journalist Tony Cascarino may well have the answer. He says that Aaron Ramsey could be back in the Premier League next season, while urging the Reds to make a £20m move for the 29-year-old midfielder…

“I can see the former Arsenal man back in the Premier League next season.” Cascarino wrote in his column for The Times.

“Reports linking him to Manchester United make a lot of sense as he is the sort of player they need – a proven midfielder with goalscoring pedigree and plenty of Premier League experience.

“I could see him not costing too much, with Juventus possibly settling for £20 million as that would get them most of their outlay back.”

Juventus are already considering a Ramsey sale less than a year after acquiring the Welshman on a free transfer, but the situation is a win-win for the Old Lady. It was a risk-free signing and now they’re seemingly going to get some sort of transfer fee back for the former Arsenal man.

On the face of it, I can see this being an astute piece of business – and one that Solskjaer would be interested in. Ramsey is experienced, plays in a position of need while remaining hungry to succeed.

Ramsey would be relatively cheap in terms of both fee and wages. Plus, he does bring that goal-scoring edge from midfield, which is something United have desperately lacked.

I like the thinking by Cascarino and although it’s not a game-changing signing, it’s definitely a move that keeps nudging in the right direction…
