Top Manchester United transfer target close to agreeing new deal at current club: report

It was well documented that Manchester United were chasing Harry Maguire’s signature pretty hard over the summer, but credit to Leicester City, they stood firm and rejected all approaches.

Now, it looks as though the Red Devils’ pursuit of the England international has hit another block in the road. That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who reckon that Maguire is set to sign a new £75,000-a-week deal at the King Power; to ward off potential suitors from making their move for the 25-year-old.

I think the fact that Leicester are giving ‘Slabhead’ a new contract just twelve months after signing him tells you everything you need to know. He’s a fantastic player, The Foxes won’t be able to keep him around forever, but they’re at least giving him a nice wage increase to keep him happy over the next twelve months.

If he has another stellar season, I’d be extremely surprised if he’s still playing for the Midlands club in the 2019/20 season. Even if it isn’t Old Trafford where he ends up, I’m just not sure that Leicester can deliver the trophies that his immense talents will eventually crave.
