Transfer Talk: Mats Hummels not interested in United move

Earlier today Jan Aage Fjortoft told us that Manchester United are ‘keen’ on moving in for Bastian Schweinsteiger – which is of course good news. However this evening, Jan has also told us that Mats Hummels will not be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, which is obviously disappointing.

Jan has some good sources in football, and is often known to be more right than wrong. Whilst its great that he believes United want Schweinstieger, bringing in a world class centre-half is equally important.

Hummels, 25, is one of the best centre-halves in world football. He’s been playing at the top level since Dortmund bought him from rivals Bayern Munich back in 2008, and has won two Bundesliga titles.

Manchester United need a world class centre-back, and its a bitter blow that Hummels looks set to remain in Germany. There aren’t an abundance of top talents in that position available at the moment, and with Ed Woodward at the helm I never feel confident about who we’re going to bring in. Hopefully Louis van Gaal can pull something big out of the bag when he returns from the World Cup.

Would you prioritise a centre-half or a central midfielder? Leave your thoughts in the comment box below.

  1. 2013 all over again utd couldn’t sign a note,an I want to see all this money, hahahahaha??? believe it when I see it.???.

  2. It appears as if, no one is leaving their respected clubs for Man United this summer – not even a championship player. United should just concentrate on their youth system!

  3. united should go for small stars or some Netherlands guys as van gaal can bring them like classie, indi, memphis and strrotman. hopefully they should come the first 3 the jan we can buy strrotman when he is fit again . No players will come to manu as no champions league oonly small stars smaller league will come

  4. Do football writers realize that different words mean different things? ‘Not interested’ means something entirely different from ‘is not leaving’. Your headline suggests that Hummels *himself* is not interested in moving to United (in particular). Your article, however, makes it clear that it’s Dortmund who have simply stated that he will not be leaving.

  5. Ed Woodward should be removed from is transfer duties he’s making a fool out of this club, is transfer tactic are poor we need some 1 with experience and know how to handle transfer business, you have to ask the question why is it that Chelsea and City seem to get who ever they want with ease it can’t just be about money they have experience people handling their transfer business, am afraid if the Club leaves everything to Woodward we might have the same result as last summer!
